Editor's Note: Race officials announced on the afternoon of November 25 that the Thanksgiving morning Newtown Turkey Trot 5K run has sold out. Some spots remained open for the walk, but t-shirts may not be available.

A pair of Newtown Thanksgiving traditions continue with the annual Newtown-Masuk high school football game on Turkey Day Eve, and the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving.

This year, the football game will be played at Masuk High, 1014 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Kickoff on Wednesday, November 25, is set for 7 pm. The Nighthawks (8-1) are ranked fourth in the Class LL state standings, and are vying for a state playoff quarterfinal round home game. The state postseason begins on Tuesday, December 1. Masuk is 6-3.

Start your Thanksgiving morning early with the 6th Annual Newtown Turkey Trot 5K road race and fun walk to support the Cyrenius H Booth Library. The race will be held on Thursday, November 26, beginning at 7:45 am. It starts at Hawley Elementary School, 26 Church Hill Road, and finishes at Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street.

Advance registration ends on Wednesday, November 25, at 5 pm; cost is $25 to run and $20 to walk. Registration is accepted the morning of the race; cost on race day is $30 to run and $25 to walk. For more details, visit newtownturkeytrot.com.

The Newtown Turkey Trot is part of the Newtown Road Race Series, including the Rooster Run in June, and the Newtown Road Race in September. Runners in multiple divisions with the lowest combined time in all three races will receive special recognition.

The Turkey Trot race follows a course from Church Hill Road to The Boulevard, Schoolhouse Hill Road, Hanover Road, Main Street, Glover Avenue, Meadow Road, Elizabeth Street, Queen Street, and Grand Place, and follows a loop back to Queen Street, to the finish line at the middle school.

Turkey Trot Road Closures & Delays

Detours will be posted by police, and there will be road closures for a few hours, and parking restrictions, on Thursday morning.

Newtown Police said there will be a parking ban on Main Street, from 12 am until 9 am, in the area between Glover Avenue and Hanover Road.

Alternating one-way traffic will flow on Main Street to accommodate runners. Narrower streets on the course, including The Boulevard, will be closed to through-traffic; residents of those streets will be able to drive to and from their residences, police said.
