Sandy Hook Tree Lighting Guest Of Honor To Be Decided December 6
On Saturday, December 6, Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) will present the 13th Annual Sandy Hook Village holiday tree lighting. The public is invited to enjoy this great Sandy Hook tradition featuring carolers, Santa Claus, karaoke, refreshments, goodies and a community celebration.
This year's event will begin at 4 pm, leading to the lighting of two trees at 6:30 pm. This includes the lighting of the longstanding tree within The Glen, at 2 Washington Avenue, as well as a Norway spruce that was planted in the village just last year. The new tree, located on the opposite corner of The Glen, is at 2 Riverside Road will reportedly again be covered with green and white lights, while The Glen tree will have its traditional multicolored bulbs - traditions that were launched last year.
Santa will be arriving to Sandy Hook Village from the North Pole via a Sandy Hook Fire Truck at 5 pm and will stay until 6:30. He will be stationed at Sandy Hook Hair Co., 102 Church Hill Road.
Children are invited to write their letters and bring themÃÂ to Santa when they visit him during the tree lighting ceremony. A mailbox will be stationed there so that all letters can be delivered straight to the North Pole.
All attendees are being asked to bring an item with them for FAITH Food Pantry. The non-ecumenical food pantry, set up in the lower level of St John's Episcopal Church, has been helping Newtown families put food on their tables for 30 years.
Upon giving a food pantry donation to Santa, each family will automatically be entered into a raffle to win a drawing to light the holiday tree.
