Drug Transaction

Police arrested two boys at Newtown High School on the morning of November 16 in connection with an illegal drug transaction that they allegedly made.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on a charge of sale of marijuana. They arrested a 15-year-old boy on a charge of possession of marijuana.

Police claim the older boy sold the drug to the younger boy. The older boy was released on a written promise to appear December 8 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. The younger boy is scheduled to appear December 4 in Danbury Juvenile Court.

The identities of persons under age 18 who are charged with crimes are concealed by state law.

DUI Incident

At about 11:30 pm November 18, police stopped motorist John F. Stein, 23, of Milford on Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook to investigate.

Police said that Stein failed field sobriety testing, adding that a person under age 16 was a passenger in the vehicle Also, another passenger in the vehicle was found to be unresponsive, police said. The volunteer ambulance corps transported the unidentified unresponsive person to Danbury Hospital for medical checks, police said.

Police arrested Stein on charges of driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, risk of injury to a minor, and also with a travel lane violation.

Police held Stein on $10,000 bail for a November 20 court arraignment.

Marijuana Charge

Police report they were called to investigate alleged drug activity within a vehicle in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street in the borough at about 2:40 pm on November 12.

Police said they located the vehicle and investigated, after which they charged Robert Raino, 19, of 10 Bridle Path Trail with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Raino was released for a November 29 court appearance.

Currituck Road

Motorist Rodolfo Elizondo, 33, of New Milford, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck southward on Currituck Road, stopped at a stop sign there about 6:30 am November 14, and was waiting for traffic to clear so that he could pull out onto Main Street, when the Toyota was struck from behind by motorist Tibor Bizer, 52, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Bizer for following too closely.

MV Charges

At about 4:30 pm on November 19 on Hawleyville Road, police charged motorist Nicola Gardner, 32, of Brookfield with failure to display a front marker plate and with driving with a suspended license. Gardner posted $100 bail and was released for a December 5 court appearance.

Truck Vs Mini

About 8 am November 9 on Wasserman Way, motorist Lorri Hilton, 47, of Roxbury, who was driving a 2003 Mini Cooper two-door sedan, was waiting to make a right turn onto Berkshire Road, as motorist Jose Mendoza, 28, of West Haven, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, was driving behind the Mini Cooper, police said.

The Dodge Dakota hit the Mini Cooper from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Mendoza an infraction for following too closely and for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Radar Patrol

Police report that a stationary radar speed patrol indicated that motorist Michael Santiago of Bridgeport was driving 54 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone on Wasserman Way at about 10 am November 20. Police stopped Santiago and charged him with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license.

Santiago signed a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on December 5 for arraignment.

DUI Arrest

Police report that they stopped motorist Benedict Jacobellis, 55, of Winhall, Vermont, on Toddy Hill Road at about 7 pm November 20 to investigate.

 After giving Jacobellis field sobriety tests, police charged him with driving under the influence and with speeding.

Following arrest processing, Jacobellis posted $100 bail and was released for a December 6 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Burglary/Larceny

On November 20, police arrested Brian Loulis, 31, of Monroe on a warrant, charging him with third-degree larceny and with conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary. Police said the arrest stems from an incident last summer in which various items were stolen from a property. Another arrest is expected in the case, police said.

Police released Loulis on $10,000 bail for a December 7 court arraignment.

DUI Case

While traveling northward on Taunton Hill Road early on the morning of November 22, motorist Quentin Ham, 19, of 6 Dylan Drive, who was driving a 1984 Pontiac Trans-Am, went off the right road shoulder and struck some rocks, police said. The auto came to rest in a ditch. Ham was not injured.

Police said they located Ham at his residence and charged him with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

Ham was released on $100 bail for a December 6 court appearance.

Vandalism

Police report that on either November 18 or 19, someone vandalized several town vehicles parked at the maintenance garage at Treadwell Park on Philo Curtis Road. Police provided no damage estimate. Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to contact Officer Steve Ketchum at 426-5841.
