NMS Visitors Offered Students
A Sample Of Career Options
By Eliza Hallabeck
Newtown Middle School eighth grade students rotated between classrooms on Friday, November 16, to hear from a number of visitors about their chosen fields.
This yearâs Career Day at NMS brought an airline pilot, an architect, a business owner, a graphic artist, a mechanic, and more to the school.
As in past years, each presenter was assigned a different classroom to use for the duration of the event, and students signed up for which persons they wished to see. The day is designed to help students focus on which classes they intend to take when they eventually attend high school.
The presenters shared their experiences with students during three separate half-hour sessions.
Representing the City of Danbury Fire Department, Bart McCleary asked a student in one of the dayâs sessions to demonstrate wearing turnout gear, and explained the different tools and aspects of being a firefighter.
âI canât stress enough how important school is,â said Mr McCleary. Adding later, âYour education is very important.â
