Newtowner Heads Up

Hospital’s Wound Care Program

WATERBURY — Gary B. Collesian of Newtown has been named program director for Saint Mary’s Hospital Wound Healing Center, which specializes in healing chronic wounds.

Mr Collesian will be responsible for all aspects of the center’s operations, including ensuring quality patient care and compliance with federal and state guidelines.

The Newtowner most recently served as regional director for a multistate health care and management consulting organization.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Central Connecticut State University, and is completing his master’s degree in public health administration and management. Mr Collesian has 15 years of experience in health care and long-term care and has been a member of the Connecticut Assisted Living Association and the Northern Westchester Geriatric Committee of New York.

On average, 86 percent of patients who come to the center with chronic wounds that have resisted traditional treatment achieve successful results in 12 to18 weeks. Specialized wound care can help patients with diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, and compromised skin grafts.

Saint Mary’s Wound Healing Center also provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which is particularly effective if patients suffer from radiation damage or face the possibility of amputation.
