Snow Promised For Sandy Hook Tree Lighting

Merchants and residents of Sandy Hook Center invite the public to join them for the annual Sandy Hook Tree Lighting, which will take place this year Saturday, December 1, from 4 until 7:30 pm.

The Sandy Hook Christmas Tree is in The Glen, the parklike area at the corner of Church Hill Road and Washington Avenue.

Wine tastings will be offered at Sandy Hook Wine & Liquors beginning at 4. Festivities, including visits with Santa Kid (the character from the book by James Petersen), kettle corn and karaoke Christmas caroling, will begin at 5 pm.

Mary Fellows, one of the organizers for this year’s tree lighting, has also said that there will definitely be snow for the tree lighting. “It may be freeze-dried, but we’ll have snow,” she said.

The tree will be lit at 6 pm, and caroling will resume at 6:15.

Those planning to attend the tree lighting may want to use the parking lot at 5 Glen Road, which offers safe sidewalk and pedestrian access to The Glen, or the parking lot off lower Church Hill Road (behind 100 Church Hill, Katherine’s Kitchen, Sandy Hook Hair Co., and Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor).  A footbridge from that parking lot connects to The Glen, or safe passage along sidewalks is also available from the entrance of that parking lot.
