NHS Color Guard Earns National Championship; Marching Band Finishes 1st In State

The Newtown High School Marching Band and Color Guard finished the season with a bang.

For the third consecutive year, they took home the Class IV Championship at the November 10 Music and the Arts Conference in Bridgeport. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, November 17–18, the Color Guard won first place at The US Scholastic Band Association National Championship in Baltimore, Md.

The NHS band and color guard performed their show “Reflections,” at the Music and the Arts Conference Championship at Kenney Stadium in Bridgeport. Thousands of spectators cheered on the 23 bands and color guards from Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey.

In Baltimore, where the marching band and color guard competed both separately and together, the NHS Color Guard won the US Scholastic Band Association National Championship outright. Together, the NHS  Marching Band and Color Guard finished seventh out of 18 bands.
