Made In Newtown Craft Fair Leads Into The Holiday Season

By Kendra Bobowick

Catching the light and collecting it in a button-size swirl was a pair of costume earrings dangling from a display at the Made in Newtown Craft Fair, which was held on November 10 at C.H. Booth Library.

At the center of the room Erica Larnerd arranged decorative, hand-painted items suggesting both country settings and the coming season of snowmen, Santa Claus, and stuffed stockings draped by a fireplace. Erica’s mother and business owner JoAnn Larnerd paints the ornamental items for the home.

Letting small beaded lengths of a necklace slip through her fingers, Cary Wyckoff tried on the jewelry in front of a mirror before making a purchase, while on the other end of the room, friends Cristina Naldini and Katie Canavan looked at earrings. Kristen and Brian Solt shopped for ornaments. Local crafters and early holiday shoppers mingled in the library’s meeting room during the fair, an event that was hosted by Newtown Newcomers & Neighbors Club.

Crafters included David Anderson, photography; Don Kopyscinski’s Bear Hills Pottery; Renee Buckley’s Silly Sweet Stuff, art for children; Lisa Cascone, hand-colored photographs, Newtown Christmas ornaments, and notecards of Newtown scenes; Joanne Larnerd, hand-painted wood items, seasonal and everyday; Cindy Manning’s Chics & Stones, artisan crafted, one-of-a-kind jewelry; Kathy Murdy’s Boulder Point Designs, decorative painting; Wendy Rafferty, Edwardia Vintage-inspired handmade jewelry; Diane Rand, knitting and crocheted pieces; Joanne Sherwood, Sherwood Forest Designs for Children; Ivette Worrell’s, Fashions by Trevette, jewelry dolls, cake tops, vintage postcards; and Clare Yacashin, handwoven scarves, shawls, and purses.

Proceeds will benefit the club’s community service projects.
