Campus Notes

Newtown resident Brianna Barry, a senior at The Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall in Milford, was inducted into the Lauralton Hall chapter of the National Honor Society, as were juniors Meagan Kelly, Mary Kate LoPiccolo, and Margaret Morrisey, also Newtown residents. National Honor Society Scholars must have a grade point average 90 and be considered by faculty members models of service, leadership, and personal moral character.

Francesca Piscitelli, daughter of Robert and Joan Piscitelli, was recently voted Homecoming Princess by the student body at Lyncoming College, Williamsport, Penn. Francesca, a junior, is a business management and psychology major. She is also a member of the Student Senate, the Campus Activities Board, and Alpha Xi Delta. She participates in community services programs such as Circle X and Habitat for Humanity.

Newtown resident Omari Miles earned High Honors at Notre Dame Catholic High School in Fairfield during the school’s first marking period.

Taylor Jacob Schmidt, who graduated NHS in 2005, recently earned an Anderson Scholarship for $1,000 and a $3,000 legacy award at Kansas State University

Shelley Marianne Solheim, RN, daughter of Janis and Peter Solheim of Sandy Hook, graduated from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield with a bachelor of science in nursing. She also passed her National Council Licensure Examination in September. Ms Solheim was a member of the Student Nurses’ Association, The Peer Education group, and Varsity Women’s Rowing Team. She was a 2003 graduate of Newtown High School, and a recipient of the Visiting Nurses Association of Newtown/Anna E. Clow Scholarship. She has accepted a position at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, Women and Children’s Health-Postpartum Department as a staff nurse.
