Michael D. âMickeyâ Skirkanich
Michael D. âMickeyâ Skirkanich, 87, widower of Hazel (Steinert) Skirkanich, of 10 Albion Street, Waterbury, died November 22 at the Wolcott View Manor Nursing Home in Wolcott.
He was the father of Carol Lockwood of Sandy Hook.
Mr Skirkanich was born on July 24, 1912 in Waterbury, son of the late Dimitri and Mary (Hie) Skirkanich. He was educated in local schools and was a retired truck driver for Nelson Freightways. He was a veteran of the US Army and proudly served his country in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, the American Association of Retired Persons and was an avid bingo player.
Mr Skirkanich leaves two sons, Michael F. and Robert, both of Waterbury; another daughter, Marsha Millette of Waterbury; a brother, Nicholas Skirkanich of Plymouth; a sister, Mary Baribault of Glendale, Calif.; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, George Skirkanich.
Funeral services for Mr Skirkanich were held on November 24 from the Casey-OâDonnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main Street, Waterbury to Saints Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial.
