Fourth Grade Football Team Had Tremendous Run To Championship Round
Newtown’s fourth grade football team saw its phenomenal season come to an end in the Shoreline Conference Championship game November 16 as the Nighthawks lost 13-0 to host North Haven.
This was, nonetheless, a season worth bragging about as the Hawks reached the pinnacle game. Newtown started off with momentum as Daniel Springer’s onside kick was recovered by the Hawks’ own, Maddox Wilson. The offense took the field, and several runs were attempted by Greg Lewis, Grey Antoinette, Joey Skura, Maverick Levy, and Maddox Wilson. The offense had a difficult time getting in its natural groove and making putting together drives to the end zone.
North Haven also struggled in the first half, as the Hawk defense had an answer for everything thrown at it. Nick Strong, Joey Skura, and DJ Macaluso all served up some big hits, preventing North Haven from making it in the end zone. It was scoreless at the half.
Emotions were high as the Nighthawks began the half with possession of the ball. The offense made drives down field to no avail. North Haven scored for a 7-0 lead. Upon regaining possession of the ball, the Hawks attempted to display their passing game, with throws to Baer Rangel, Macaluso, and Jack Capelli falling incomplete. Maverick Levy fought hard in the pocket all day, with several quarterback keeps. North Haven drove down field to put another six points on the board.
The Newtown Nighthawks played with teamwork, tenacity, and drive all season. The camaraderie and love these boys demonstrated week in and week out for this game and for one another, is what allowed them to go so far in their season. The Hawks have a bright future ahead of them. Newtown looks to come back next year even stronger and determined to bring home a championship.
