Newtown Police Department is working with the State of CT Department of Emergency Services and Homeland Security to educate the community on swatting and the current climate of swatting faith-based organizations.

Swatting is a form of harassment to deceive an emergency service provider into sending a police and emergency police response team to another person’s address due to the false reporting of a serious law enforcement agency.

Multiple local communities of faith were swatted one recent Sunday morning.

On Monday, November 25, at Newtown Community Center, a special presentation is planned by NPD and DEMHS. Speakers will talk about the current climate of swatting from the national, state, and local levels. Following the presentation there will be a panel of questions and answers with local, state and federal partners for specific questions and available resources.

The event will run from 1 to 3 pm at the community center, 8 Simpson Street.

For additional information contact DEMHS Senior Policy Advisor Seth Hershman at Seth.Hershman@ct.gov.
