Reflections On The Municipal Elections

To the Editor:

Well, it was quite an election season and certainly some surprises for all. Thank you all for your support. I am humbled as an Independent to have received 2,765 votes. Given the propensity of voters to cast their ballot on a straight party line basis it really was a great sign of support. In the case of the BOE vacancy contest over 1,000 voters elected to not cast a vote rather than break their straight party line vote. (That’s not unusual.) This created an insurmountable hurdle for me to clear. I was, however, thrilled to see the turnout on Election Day, almost 1,000 more voters than the previous election. It speaks volumes about your commitment to our community. Keep being involved, it’s the backbone of democracy.

I certainly will continue to be involved in Newtown as a member of the Economic Development Commission and the Newtown Lions Club. It looks like I’ll have a little bit more time on my hands than expected. If any readers have a great service organization who might need an energetic and committed helper please reach out. When one door closes another opens!

Again, thank you for your support, and congratulations to our group of newly elected officials. Newtown is lucky to have such a talented group of residents offering their time to Make Newtown even Nicer.

Carry on.
