Rotary International is looking for people to join the group of business and professional people who have participated in its Group Study Exchange Program. These GSE team members have exchanged views and methods with foreign business and professional people in the same occupation. They have stayed with local families in their hosting Rotary District, which gave them the opportunity to experience the lifestyle and customs of that country as well as develop lasting personal and professional friendships. They will tell you that the Group Study Exchange Program has enriched their lives.

Would  you like to become a member of this elite group and, at the same time, receive a free trip to a foreign country? Would you like to be able to discuss your profession and exchange ideas with your counterpart in another country? Have you ever thought you would like to visit a country – not as a tourist but as a guest in the home of one of the residents?

This year, Newtown’s Rotary District is exchanging teams of business and professional people with South Africa and Argentina. The teams, each comprised of four to five members between the ages of 25 and 40 with a Rotarian team leader, will be leaving for a month’s stay on April 1, 2000. Participants will spend the month experiencing life in the exchange district, visiting with professional counterparts and being an ambassador for peace and understanding.

Applications are being accepted now through December 31. If you are interested, contact Ed Osterman, 426-0530 or Brian Barrett, 264-8973, Group Study Exchange Committee co-chairmen, or via e-mail at Rotary Trip2000@aol.com. All applicants must be living or working in District 7980, which is the southern four counties of Connecticut, 25 to 40 years of age, at least two years in their present position and enthusiastic about their respective vocations. Company personnel directors are urged to review their up and coming employees and consider the international experience they would receive as a benefit to their company.

The local Rotary District has been participating in the GSE program since 1984, exchanging with Germany, Turkey, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Australia, Japan, Switzerland, Brazil, France, England, Scotland and Sweden.

Interviews for Team members for both the South African and Argentine Team Members will be held in early December and therefore anyone interested in this experience should act promptly.
