State police said they plan to obtain an arrest warrant for a Garner Correctional Institution inmate following his November 19 assault on a doctor at the high security prison on Nunnawauk Road.
State police said inmate Robert Jefferson, 26, punched a supervising psychologist in the face twice after Jefferson received a letter from the doctor which upset him. In the letter, the doctor had recommended that Jefferson take medication as part of his treatment, state police said.
After the assault, two inmates and staff restrained Jefferson, state police said. The doctor suffered a swollen face and was cut in the assault, according to state police.
State police said they will seek an arrest warrant for third-degree assault against Jefferson.   Â
