Anne Marie was born in Norwalk, Conn., in 1931, the daughter of the late Anne (Rose) and Fredrick Buckley. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Whittemore, and twin brother, Neil Buckley.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses: Karen Iliades (Chris) of Maine, Janet Taylor (Bill) of Connecticut, Joyce Bennett (Wayne) of Costa Rica, Cathy Ramaciere (Mario) of Florida, and Joseph Porco (Susan) of Connecticut.

In addition, “Gemma” as she was affectionately known, is survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Frank, with whom she shared wonderful adventures; an enormous extended family of nieces and nephews; and many close friends, some since childhood. She was proud of her large family and loved to brag about having five generations.

Anne Marie was a graduate of Norwalk High School, a homemaker, a caregiver, and devoted to her faith. She volunteered and supported others in numerous capacities throughout her life. She was a long-time member of St Thomas Parish in Norwalk, where she was active as a Eucharistic Minister, and then later, after moving to Newtown, Conn., became a member of St Rose of Lima Church.

Anne Marie was extremely active for many years and loved to travel. She enjoyed coffee with the girls after water aerobics class at the YMCA. She loved animals, especially horses, and would often reminisce about her childhood pony, Buttons.

The family would like to thank the MHC home health professionals and St Rose Parish who offered care and spiritual comfort to Anne Marie in her later years.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Honan Funeral Home in Newtown. Calling hours are Monday, November 28, from 4 to 8 pm at 58 Main Street, Newtown, near the flagpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 29, at 10:30 am at St Rose of Lima in Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anne Marie Porco’s memory can be made to St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, or by calling 203-679-5555 to support MHC’s compassionate nonprofit Home Health Care Services that may be needed for your loved one.
