Truck Hits Tree

Police report that truck driver Tyler Fairchild 25, of Northfield was driving an International 4300 box truck northeastward on Pond Brook Road, near Lake George Road, about 12:48 pm on November 13, when he slowed down due to a large vehicle that was approaching him from the opposite direction.

While the International was passing by the other vehicle, the International struck a large tree limb that was hanging over the roadway, police report.

Fairchild was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Sandy Hook Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Toddy Hill Road about 10:26 am on November 12.

The incident involved motorist Kristen Powers, 44, of 75 High Rock Road, who was driving a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, and motorist Bonnie Rumilly, 31, of Wilton, who was driving a 2007 BMW sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Powers a written warning for following too closely.

DUI Arrest

Police said that they responded to a report about 8:09 pm on November 12 concerning an erratic  driver traveling on South Main Street, near its four-way intersection with Botsford Hill Road and Meadowbrook Road.

Police said they located the vehicle and driver in question in the parking lot at Sand Hill Plaza, a retail center at 228 South Main Street.

After investigating, police charged motorist Luis Guzman-Illescas, 32, of Danbury with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and violation of state traffic laws.

Illescas was released on $500 bail for a November 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main Street

At about 5 pm on November 16, police said they stopped a motorist to investigate on South Main Street near its northern intersection with Elm Drive.

Police said that after investigating, they charged motorist Rashid Brown, 25, of Bridgeport with failure to obey a traffic control signal and driving under suspension. Brown was released on a written promise to appear in court on December 3.

Highway DUI

State police said that they responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp at about 12:16 am on November 12.

State police said that on arriving there, they found motorist Scott Johnson, 31, of Danbury, who had been driving a 2013 Honda Civic, standing outside the vehicle. The vehicle was facing in the wrong direction on the ramp, state police said.

State police charged Johnson with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and with driving in the wrong direction on a divided highway.

Johnson was released on $500 bail for a November 25 court appearance.

Exit 10

A two-vehicle accident occurred on westbound Interstate 84 at the Exit 10 off-ramp at about 2:50 pm on November 13, state police said.

Trucker Thomas Balogh, 27, of Dover, Del., was driving a 2013 Kenworth truck in the right lane of I-84, as motorist Shuyun Yin, 38, of 18 Quarry Ridge Road was driving a 2010 Toyota Prius on the Exit 10 off-ramp, state police said.

The Toyota then attempted to merge back onto the highway in heavy traffic, but collided with the Kenworth, state police said.

There were no injuries. Yin received an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane, state police said.

Infiniti Vs Volvo

State police said a two-vehicle accident occurred in congestion at about 11 am on November 13 on westbound Interstate 84 near Exit 10.

When traffic slowed to a stop, motorist Thomas Conetta, 65, of Bethel, who was driving a 1999 Infiniti G-20 sedan, struck the rear end of a 2007 Volvo truck driven by Harpal Grewal, 31, of Burlington, N.J., according to state police.

There were no injuries. Conetta received an infraction for failure to maintain a safe distance, state police said.

Interstate Crash

At about 6:30 pm on November 12, motorist Diego Jimenez, 42, of 3 Overlook Drive, who was driving a 2006 BMW 750-LI sedan on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp, was struck from behind by motorist Fabricio Carvalho, 30, of 23 Park Lane, state police said.

There were no injuries. Carvalho received a written warning for following too closely, state police said.

Off-Ramp

State police said that at about 2 pm on November 10, motorist Thomas Purr, 70, of Pawling, N.Y., who was driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla sedan, stopped at a stop sign at the end of an Exit 9 off-ramp for Interstate 84, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by a 2001 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Lily Sudak, 24, of Stevensville, Mont.

Purr received a possible injury, state police said. Sudak received an infraction for following too closely, according to state police.

Deer Incident

At about 7:22 pm on November 9, motorist Jonathan Humphrey, 23, of Simsbury, who was driving a 1998 Subaru Forester eastward on Interstate 84, about one-half mile west of Exit 9, struck a deer that was lying dead on the roadway, state police said. The Subaru then spun out of control and struck the median guardrail, state police said.

Humphrey was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle collision occurred on eastbound Interstate 84 about 5:30 pm on November 8.

State police report that motorist William Alfiere, 19, of Beacon Falls, who was driving a 2005 Mazda 6 auto, was slowing for heavy traffic conditions, as was motorist Ramon Rodriqguez, 28, of Philadelphia, who was driving a 1997 Ford SUV.

Motorist Timothy Pratt, 42, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Sentra, then struck the rear end of the Ford, pushing the Ford into the rear end of the Mazda, state police said,.

Alfiere received a possible injury. Pratt received an infraction for following too closely.

Trumbull Man

On the morning of November 18, Ralph Fleurimont, 23, of Trumbull turned himself over to police at the police station and was charged on a warrant with second-degree failure to appear in court stemming from pending charges of driving with a suspended license and traveling unreasonably fast.

Police said they had pressed those motor vehicle charges against Fleurimont following a June 28 traffic stop.

Following processing, police released Fleurimont on $500 bail for a December 3 court appearance.

Queen/Mile Hill

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the hazardous intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road about 5:30 pm on November 12.

Motorist Karen Kneisel, 46, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Outback station wagon, was waiting at a stop sign at the end of Queen Street, as motorist Donna Culbert, 51, of South Kent was driving a 2001 Honda Civic sedan westward on Mile Hill Road, police said.

The Subaru then attempted to turn left onto eastbound Mile Hill Road, but the two vehicles collided, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said Kneisel received an infraction for a stop sign violation.

Wasserman Way

About 6 pm on November 15, motorist Richard Giacin III, 46, of 3 Short Hill Road, who was driving a 2013 GMC Acadia SUV, was traveling eastward on Wasserman Way, police report.

At that time, motorist Christopher Sfreddo, 22, of Stafford Springs, who was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima sedan, was pulling out of the commuter parking lot there, police said.

The GMC then passed a stopped vehicle and collided with the Nissan, police said. There were no injuries. Police said Giacin received a written warning for passing in a no-passing zone.

Chevy Vs Mercedes

Two-vehicles collided about 2:48 pm on November 13 on Church Hill Road near Main Street.

Motorist Jennifer Beers, 46, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-class sedan, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Mercedes was struck from behind by motorist Lewis Hechtman, 56, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala sedan, according to police.

There were no injuries. Hechtman received a written warning for following too closely, police report.

South Main Crash

Motorist Mario Pizighelli III, 50, of 29 Botsford Hill Road was driving a 2007 Ford Econoline van northward on South Main Street, near Botsford Hill Road, about 5 pm on November 18, when a deer ran out onto the street and collided with the van, police said. Pizighelli was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Church Hill/Queen

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Queen Street and Church Hill Road about 9:30 pm on November 15.

Police said that motorist Anthony Venezia, 17, of 7 Charles Circle was driving a 2000 Ford Mustang coupe eastward on Church Hill at its intersection with Queen Street, when motorist Taelar Bruno, 18, of 12 Timber Mill Road, who was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse, turned left in front of the oncoming Ford, resulting in a collision.

There were no injuries. Bruno received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police report.

Sideswipe

At about 3:30 pm on November 14, motorist Kevin Petroski, 52, of Ansonia was driving a 2000 Mercury Marquis sedan westward near 182 Berkshire Road, as motorist Antonio Dopoco, 80, of Trumbull was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima sedan eastward there, police report.

The Mercury then entered the eastbound lane and sideswiped the Nissan, after which the Mercury struck some guardrailing along the eastbound road shoulder, police said.

Petroski was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. The accident is under investigation.

DUI Charge

Police said that at about 10:42 pm on November 14, they responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Old Green Road, near its intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road.

Police said their investigation found that motorist Glenn Walsh, 48, of 21 Horseshoe Ridge Road was driving a vehicle that went off the pavement and struck a tree along the right road shoulder. There were no injuries.

Police said they charged Walsh with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Walsh was released on $100 bail for a December 3 court appearance, police said.
