Lillian Zale Butler

Lillian Zale Butler, 89, mother of Maureen B. Moore of Sandy Hook, died November 15 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. A resident of Brookfield, she was the wife of the late Earle J. Butler. Mrs Butler was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., August 16, 1914, a daughter of the late Walter and Lillian (Schultz) Zale.

A resident of Armonk, N.Y., for 35 years, she moved to Brookfield three years ago to be closer to her children.

During her lifetime, Mrs Butler dabbled in many creative pursuits, including knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting, and gardening. She enjoyed traveling in the United States as well as many countries in Europe. She was a communicant of St Patrick’s Church of Armonk, N.Y.

Following her husband’s Irish tradition, she became an avid fan of Notre Dame’s fighting Irish football team and listened to or watched every game since 1936. Her son and two grandchildren graduated from the University of Notre Dame, so she made many visits to the campus and watched them play in the stadium as well.

In addition to her daughter Maureen and her husband Bruce, Mrs Butler is survived by a son, Peter Butler and his wife Carolyn; eight grandchildren: Diana Butler, William Butler, Elizabeth Butler Danes, Perry Butler, Andrew Moore, Tara Butler, Kimberly Moore Hanscom, and Brian Moore, as well as eight great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on November 19 in St Patrick’s Church, Armonk, N.Y. Burial followed in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers, N.Y.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Home Health Aide Live-in Program of Regional Hospice of Western CT, 405 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.
