Dr Frederick J. O’Neill

Dr Frederick J. O’Neill of Driftway Road, Danbury, died of lung cancer, November 16 at his home. He was the husband of Patricia M. O’Neill for 49 years.

Dr O’Neill was born January 12, 1933, in Eddystone, Penn., son of Frederick A. and Mildred Covington O’Neill.

He received his BS from West Chester State University, Penn., and a MEd from Rutgers University. In 1976, he received his PhD from NYU. His field of expertise was learning development.

Dr O’Neill was professor emeritus at Western Connecticut State University, where he also served as the first dean of the School of Professional Studies. He served WestConn in both tutorial and administrative capacities from 1965 to 1988.

He is also survived by a loving and beloved family, his children and their spouses: Michael and Phyllis R. O’Neill of Newtown; Pamela O’Neill of Sandy Hook; Brian and Sandra A. O’Neill of New Fairfield; Judith Archiere of Waterbury; Steven and Katherine M. O’Neill of Bethel; James and Eileen F. O’Neill of Brewster; Daniel and Jennifer B. O’Neill of Kent; and Megan O. and Russell Moore of Danbury.

His beautiful grandchildren were a source of joy and share in his undying love and devotion: Kendra O’Neill; Anthony and Nicholas Archiere; Sarah, Terence, and Kelly O’Neill; Kristen, Eric, Lauren, and Tyler O’Neill; James, Joshua, and Alexandra O’Neill; Michael, William, and Lacey Moore.

There will be no calling hours and funeral arrangements will be private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Cremation Services of Western Connecticut, 55 Main Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.
