Shana was selected to the All-Conference team and, in the finals, had three kills in the fifth game to lead J&W to a 3-2 win.
With the Wildcats down 2-1, Shana had four aces in a 15-6 win in the fourth game of the match â forcing the fifth and deciding game. J&W finished with a 11-1 GNAC record and 16-18 overall.
Shana was All-Tournament at the J&W/Plattsburgh State Tournament. She led the team in service aces, assists and digs and was second in kill percentage.
Scott Calabrese, a former Newtown High School soccer player, was named goalkeeper trainer at the University of North Carolina.
Calabrese was a former assistant coach at Stetson University and a player at Bryant College. He will become UNCâs restricted earnings assistant coach and will assist head coach Elmar Bolowich and top assistant Oliver Weiss.
Calabrese was a four-year letterman at Bryant College from 1990-93, earning all-conference honors as a goalie. He also played professionally with the Rhode Island Stingrays and the South Carolina Shamrock of the USISL from 1994-98.
Prior to his stint at Stetson, Calabrese was an assistant coach at Western Connecticut State University in 1995, overseeing the goalkeepers and he was the goalkeeping director at the Clemson Soccer Academy from 1995-98.
