Charged With Evading

Newtown Police report Maria DaSilva, 61, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Kia Soul, was attempting to park in a parking spot in the Caraluzzi’s parking lot at 4:38 pm October 29. While pulling into the spot, DaSilva’s vehicle struck the left rear quarter panel of an unoccupied 2016 Honda CR-V owned by Edward Dallwein of Apex, N.C. Dasilva left the parking lot, but a witness was able to get the vehicle information.

DaSilva was charged with evading responsibility for an accident causing property damage and given a court date of November 7 in Danbury Superior Court.

Failed To Maintain Lane

Newtown Police report Kirk Kristofferson, 50, of Ridgefield, operating a 1989 Ford Econoline, was traveling westbound on Dodgingtown Road at Shelly Road at 3:17 pm November 3. A 1998 Mack CL70 operated by Johendi Jimenez-Cordero, 30, of Meriden, was parked at the end of Shelly Road. Kristofferson’s vehicle failed to maintain its proper lane and collided with Jimenez-Cordero’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Kristofferson’s vehicle was towed.

Kristofferson was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating a motor vehicle while under suspension and operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance.

Hit Deer

Newtown Police report Roman Czernik, 76, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Mazda CX-5, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road near Bennetts Bridge Road at 6:58 pm November 3. A deer entered the roadway from the eastbound side of the road and Czernik’s vehicle struck it.

Czernik was not injured. Czernik’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

No enforcement action was taken.

Struck Rock

Newtown Police report Allison Farrell, 42, of Fairfield, operating a 2022 Honda Pilot, was traveling westbound on Taunton Lake Road at 9:14 pm November 4. The front passenger tire of the vehicle struck a large rock that was partially in the lane, causing minor damage to the vehicle.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Juliana Rousseau, 20, of Bridgeport, operating a 2013 Nissan Versa, was traveling northbound on Currituck Road and stopped at the intersection with Obtuse Road at 1:18 pm November 5. Alice Webb, 84, of Brookfield, operating a 2017 Honda CR-V, was traveling north on Hawleyville Road and turned right onto Currituck Road, intending to continue onto Obtuse Road. Rousseau passed through the intersection with Obtuse Road and was approaching the intersection with Hawleyville Road when the two vehicles made contact.

No injuries were reported. Rousseau’s vehicle was towed.

Rousseau was given an infraction for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Collided With Deer

Newtown Police report Acacio Alves, 51, of Seymour, operating a 2010 Nissan Altima, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 4:54 pm November 8. A deer crossed through the westbound travel lane and attempted to cross the eastbound lane. Alves’ vehicle struck the deer.

Alves was not injured. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Yukon Strikes Highlander

Newtown Police report William Stewart, 63, of Brookfield, operating a 2004 GMC Yukon, was attempting to park in a marked parking space in the lot at 5 Queen Street at 1:38 pm November 9. While turning, the right front corner of Stewart’s vehicle made contact with the left rear corner of a 2004 Toyota Highlander owned by Christopher Barrett of West Palm Beach, Fla.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Parking Lot Collision

Newtown Police report Wendy Humphries, 42, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Audi Q8, was parked and occupied in two spaces in a private parking lot at 7:49 am November 10. Maxwell McCarthy, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Honda CR-V, attempted to pull into the remainder of the second parking space not occupied by Humphries’ vehicle and the front right corner of his vehicle struck the left rear corner of Humphries’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Failed To Yield Right Of Way

Newtown Police report Jimmy Rodriguez, 34, of Bridgeport, operating a 2007 Toyota Camry, was attempting to turn into the northbound lane of South Main Street from 91 South Main Street at 5:58 pm November 10. Richard Pirhala, 67, of Monroe, operating a 2022 Subaru Outback, was traveling northbound on South Main Street. Rodriguez failed to yield right of way and collided with the back right passenger’s side of Pirhala’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Rodriguez’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

Rodriguez was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating a motor vehicle under suspension, operating a motor vehicle without a license, misuse of registration plates, and failure to yield right of way at a driveway.

Hit And Run

Newtown Police report that a 2008 Honda Civic owned by Gina Long of Sandy Hook was parked on the westbound shoulder of Berkshire Road at 10:38 pm November 11. An unknown vehicle traveling westbound on Berkshire Road sideswiped Long’s vehicle and then left the scene.

No injuries were reported.

Evading Responsibility Charge

Newtown Police arrested John Pulla, 22, of New Milford, at 3:13 pm November 13 on the charges of evading responsibility for injuries or property damage, and making an improper turn. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of November 28 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hit Deer On South Main

Newtown Police report Valerie Saltzman, 57, of Monroe, operating a 2022 Subaru Ascent, was traveling southbound on South Main Street when a deer crossed into the southbound travel lane at 5:38 pm November 14.

The operator and a passenger were not injured. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.
