Fill The Fire Trucks, November 21 & 22
The annual Fill The Fire Truck Food Drive is just around the corner. Newtown firefighters will be spending time outside two of the town’s markets this weekend, accepting donations for FAITH Food Pantry just in time for Thanksgiving.
Members of Hawleyville, Newtown Hook & Ladder, and Sandy Hook fire companies will be at Big Y, at 6 Queen Street, on Saturday, November 21, from 9 am until 2 pm. Then on Sunday, members of Botsford and Dodgingtown will be outside Stop & Shop at 228 South Main Street, during the same timeframe.
FAITH Food Pantry volunteers are hoping for everything that will help those in need put together a Thanksgiving dinner, so any related items will be gratefully received. The nonecumenical pantry, located in the basement of St John’s Episcopal Church in Sandy Hook, is also in need of tuna, canned stews and vegetables, health and beauty items, paper goods, and pet foods.
Financial donations and gift cards can also be given to the pantry.
FAITH — Food Assistance, Immediate Temporary Help — has been helping residents put food on their table in times of need for nearly 35 years. Residents only need to show proof of residency in order to receive food and/or toiletries, and even pet supplies, from the pantry.
FAITH is open to receive clients on Tuesday mornings between 10 am and noon, and Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 pm. Donations can also be dropped off during those hours.
