VFW, Others, Hosting Toys For Tots Collection

Newtown Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 308 is conducting its Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots program through mid-December.

Collection boxes will remain at the post on Freedom Defenders Way (formerly 18 Tinkerfield Road), until Friday, December 19. Donations of new, unwrapped toys are welcome.

A retired Marine, Mr Silber is chairman of this year’s VFW Toys For Tots program. To kick off the toy drive, Mr Silber held his retirement party on Friday, November 14, at the post. In lieu of retirement gifts, he requested donations for Toys For Tots and received more than 100 toys.

Additional Toys For Tots donation drop locations in Newtown, according to ridgefield-ct.toysfortots.org, include Berkshire Hathaway Realtors, 84-A South Main Street; Dr Baum Orthodontist, 23 Church Hill Road; Cannon Ridge Training Center, 3 Simms Lane; The Children’s Adventure Center, 14 Riverside Road; Coldwell Banker, 45 South Main Street;

Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire station, 55 Dodgingtown Road; National Shooting Sports Foundation, 11 Mile Hill Road; Newtown Police Department, 3 Main Street; NYA Sports & Fitness Center, 4 Primrose Street; Panera, 228 South Main Street (Sand Hill Plaza); Dr John Popowich’s office, 71 South Main Street; Society of Plastics Engineers, 13 Church Hill Road; and State Farm Insurance, 23 Barnabas Road.

Newtown Police officers will have two Toys For Tots collection locations set up for four hours on Saturday, December 5. Those unable to get to TJ Maxx or The Toy Tree between 10 am and 2 pm can still donate to the US Marine Corps Toys For Tots Foundation at any number of collection spots set up in town until December 18.
