Senior services for Newtown seniors are available at the Multipurpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The Senior Center is under the auspices of the Commission on Aging. The center is run by Senior Services Director Marilyn Place. For more information about programs offered at the Senior Center call 270-4310.

You may drop in at the Senior Center weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon, for which you must reserve three days in advance.

Newtown has daily door-to-door minibus service Monday through Friday. Buses also run all day from the Senior Center to Sand Hill Plaza. On Fridays, the bus alternates between rides to Danbury Fair Mall and Berkshire Plaza in Danbury (to Walmart Route 6). Cost is 65¢ each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip, 75¢ each way for out of town. Call 748-2511 TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE to book a ride and get the out-of-town Friday schedule.

 

This Week’s Programs

*LARRY AYCE will perform old-time and new favorites to sing-along and/or dance to on Monday, November 30, at 1 pm.

*Senior Star KARAOKE REGIONAL COMPETITION, hosted by the Newtown Senior Center, Wednesday, December 2, at 1 pm, includes area senior centers. Three members from each area will compete and the winner will go on to the state competition. Come enjoy the music.

*SAVE THE DATE: Tuesday, December 8, Annual Christmas Party at The Waterview, $35 per person for gourmet buffet, champagne toast, music and entertainment. Reservations are being taken now.

Menu For Week Of

November 30–December 6

Monday: Glazed ham, scalloped potato, peas and onions, seedless rye bread, pineapple juice, cinnamon applesauce.

Tuesday: Roast pork with gravy and applesauce garnish, scalloped potato, peas and onions, oat bread, grape juice, Lindley’s own bread pudding.

Wednesday: Cream of broccoli soup with crackers, fish with Creole sauce, roasted potatoes, bean blend, corn bread, seasonal fresh fruit.

Thursday: Roast turkey served over stuffing with gravy and cranberry sauce garnish, Scandinavian blend vegetables, wheat dinner roll, chocolate chip cookie.

And for planning ahead —

Monday: December 6: Hungarian goulash served over egg noodles, cut green beans, buttermilk biscuits, peaches.

Tuesday: December 7: Parmesan encrusted fish with lemon and tarter sauce, mashed potato, Oriental blend vegetables, wheat bread, diet fruited Jell-O with whipped topping.
