The Staff Of Newtown Youth Services Wishes Everyone A Healthy And Happy Thanksgiving
Community Programs
The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display at Newtown High School during the week of November 27 to December 1. The quilt panels, located in the Lecture Hall, will be available for viewing, by high school students, during the school day. Tuesday, November 28, will be the special night for Middle School students and their families. The time is 6 to 8 pm. On Thursday, November 30, the quilt will be open to the general public. A World AIDS Day Eve program and candlelight vigil will begin at 7 pm.
A food drive for Interfaith AIDS Ministry food pantry will be conducted throughout the Quilt display week. Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at Newtown Youth Services or brought to the High School on the community evenings, November 28 or 30. Programs For Parents
POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAMS â For planning purposes Welcome to the Teen Zone, for parents of middle and high school students, will begin on January 18. PP will travel. Two courses are already scheduled in private homes. Fee is $25 per person or $35 per couple.
Change Of Time And Day
POSITIVE PARENTING FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS is a new course for parents. To better serve the needs of parents, the time and day have been altered. This course will now run Mondays, 9 am beginning November 27. Additional dates are December 4, 18, January 8, 22, February 5, 26, March 5, 19, April 2, 23, 30, May 14, and June 4. The fee is $25 per person or $35 per couple. This includes all materials and applies for the whole year, as this is an on-going program. All are welcome at any time.
It is necessary to pre-register for all parenting courses.
Our Parenting Programs are a great way to meet people who may be dealing with many of the same issues. If you would like to host a Positive Parenting program in your home, school, or business, or would like further information concerning any of the programs, please contact Roseanne Loring at 270-4335.
Entertainment Books
The buy is even better this year! Last year the price was $30 and the 2000-2001 price is $20. Please call NYS to reserve your copy. Itâs not too often that a deal like this comes along!
Mind, Body, Spirit
Classes meet on Mondays, 4 to 5 pm at Youth Services. Students may join at any time.
4-H Clubs â On-Going
Fourth and fifth grades continue to meet on Monday afternoons from 3:15 to 4:30. Middle School grades meet on Wednesdays from 4 to 5:15. Both groups will meet at NYS. Membership is free but space is limited. For additional information or to register, please call the office.
Youth Group Meetings
The High School Youth Advisory Board (YAB) will meet on November 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Middle School Youth Advisory Board (Ms YAB) will meet on Wednesday, December 6, AT NEWTOWN YOUTH SERVICES, from 4 to 5:30 pm. We will be making decorations for our adopted holiday family and discussing items they requested. Please check YAB bulletin boards for additional details.
NYCAAP â Will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, November 28, from 6 to 8 pm.
