Retiring The Flags

To the Editor:

We would like to thank Jen Kessler for all her hard work and dedication putting together the flag retirement ceremony. Jen chose this for her Cadette Silver Award Project. We would like to thank the VFW, its commander and members who provided support and guidance. A thank you to the locations throughout Newtown that served as collection points for old and worn flags: The Newtown Bee, The Newtown Landfill, The C. Booth Library, and the Sandy Hook Deli. We wish to also thank The Newtown Bee for its coverage prior to the November 17th ceremony and its subsequent follow-up.

Newtown can be proud of the youth involved in Scouting. The young women in Cadette Troop 478 – Andrea, Ashley, Jen, Jess, MaryEllen, Nicole, and Rebecca did an outstanding job during the ceremony and for the many hours of work before hand. We are proud of you all.
