Police Reminder: Buckle Up!

Police are conducting an enforcement drive to have motorists comply with state law on the use of automotive seat belts and child safety seats, according to Sergeant George Sinko.

Sgt Sinko reminds motorists that all front seat passengers must wear seat belts, even if the vehicle is equipped with air bags.

Also, all passengers in either the front seat or rear seat, who are ages 4 through 15 inclusive, must wear seat belts.

Children under age 4 must sit in child safety seats.

Violations of the seat belt laws carry a $37 fine. Child safety seat violations carry a $60 fine.

Sgt Sinko is the police department’s car seat technician and answers questions from the public on the proper use of child safety seats. He can be reached at 426-5841 at the police station.
