Ann Guranovitz, 89, a resident of Bradenton, Fla., since 2010, and former Newtown resident, died peacefully in her sleep November 8, at her home. She was born to Mary and Alexander Guranovitz in Bridgeport and lived there for more than 50 years before moving to Newtown in 1977.

Four children, Beverlee Costanzo and William Costanzo, and his wife Michele, of Bradenton, Gayle Van Pelt, and husband Edmund, of Waterbury, and James Costanzo, and wife Debbie, of Bristol; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild survive Ms Guranovitz. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Louis Johnny Costanzo, in 1997.

Ms Guranovitz enjoyed her home in Newtown and liked to refer to it as her “house on the mountain.”

She worked at Casco Products during World War II and after the war worked for more than 30 years in nursing, at Bridgeport Hospital. She was also an artist, an avid reader, a New Age thinker, and was proud to be a strong, independent woman decades before it became vogue.

A memorial service will be held at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, Trumbull, at a later date.
