Rollover

At about 5 am on November 14, police responded to a report of a rollover accident that had occurred near 277 South Main Street.

Police said that when they arrived at the scene, neither the driver, Ian Doerr, 20, of 49 Spring Trail, nor the passenger, Joseph Scarpelli, 19, of 1 Abbey Lane, were at the scene of the crash in which a 1998 BMW sedan had rolled over and was heavily damaged.

Police said they located Doerr and charged him with evading responsibility and with making an improper turn. Doerr was transported to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation, police said. Doerr was released on $500 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on December 2, police said.

After he had gone to Danbury Hospital on his own, Scarpelli went to the police station to speak to police, according to police. Police said they did not charge Scarpelli.

Thefts From Vehicles

Police report that midday on November 10, thefts of items occurred from two vehicles that were parked at the Trinity Episcopal Church parking lot at 36 Main Street.

Police said that entry into one vehicle was gained by breaking a window. The other vehicle, which was unlocked, was easily entered.

Officer John McCluskey is investigating the thefts and asks anyone with information on the matter to contact him at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Slippery Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred during slippery road conditions about 6:55 am November 8 on Bradley Lane.

Police said that motorist Michele Doyle, 42, of 42 Bradley Lane, who was driving a 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan, became stuck on an icy slope on that street near her home, with the minivan blocking the roadway.

Motorist Joseph McMullan, Jr, 67, of Temple, N.H., who was driving a 2010 GMC Yukon SUV, attempted to drive down the icy slope, but was unable to stop the GMC, police said. In attempting to avoid hitting the Honda, the GMC swerved, but it hit a nearby stone wall, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

South Main Street

A two-vehicle collision occurred on wet pavement on South Main Street about 3:30 pm November 4, police said.

Motorist Ray Crisoli, 48, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2006 Jeep SUV southward on South Main Street, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto Peck’s Lane, after which southbound motorist Michelle Yakono, 54, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2008 BMW sedan, attempted to stop, but struck the rear end of the Jeep, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Yakono for following too closely.

 

Intersection Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the busy intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 6:10 pm on November 5.

The collision involved motorist Daquan Hester, 27, of Danbury, and motorist Santhosh Abraham, 40, of Monroe, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Hester a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Honda Vs Jeep

About 5:18 pm on November 10, motorist Franklin Abad, 44, of New Haven, who was driving a 1988 Honda sedan, was parked along the northbound road shoulder near 50 South Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Tracy VanBlarcom, 38, of Bethel was driving a 2002 Jeep SUV northward on South Main Street, police said.

As the Honda attempted to merge into northbound traffic, the two vehicles collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Abad a written warning for making a restricted turn.

 

I-84 DUI

State police report that at about 1:10 am on November 14, they stopped motorist Steven Phillips, 24, of 17 Platts Hill Road to investigate because Phillips was driving erratically on westbound Interstate 84.

State police said they determined that Phillips was intoxicated. State police charged him with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

After processing, state police released Phillips on $1,000 bail for a November 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Highway Accident

State police report that motorist Susan Boyle, 59, of Montclair, N.J., who was driving an unspecified motor vehicle westward in the left lane of Interstate 84, about 300 feet west of the Exit 10 on-ramp, about 3:13 pm November 14, told them that her vehicle was cut off by a silver-colored Honda Accord.

State police said Boyle told them that in order to avoid a collision, she made a turn to the left, but in doing so, her vehicle went onto the highway median and then rolled over, coming to rest on its left side.

State police said that John Boyle, 62, of Montclair, N.J., who was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Susan Boyle, received a minor head cut in the accident.

Guardcable

Motorist Alejandra Luna, 23, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry sedan in the left lane of westbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet of the Exit 11 off-ramp, at about 3:08 am November 12, drifted onto the highway’s left shoulder and then damaged an about 1,000-foot-long section of guardcabling, state police said.

Luna was not injured. State police gave Luna an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Interstate Accident

State police said that motorist Erica Drummond, 24, of Bethel was driving a motor vehicle westward on Interstate 84, about 2,000 feet east of the Exit 9 off-ramp, about 6:24 am November 10, when she lost control of the vehicle and struck an about 70-foot-long section of guardrailing.

Drummond received a minor injury and was transported to Danbury Hospital, state police said. State police said they issued her an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

 

Queen Street

Police report a two-vehicle accident at a commercial driveway at 5 Queen Street at about 3:16 pm on November 5.

Motorist Charles Gillingham, 88, of 30 Hundred Acres Road, who was driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was attempting to make a left turn on a red traffic signal to the exit driveway and travel southward on Queen Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Danielle Gadoci, 21, of 331 South Main Street was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee northward on Queen Street, police said.

The two vehicles collided. Police said Gadoci reported injuries following the crash. Hook & Ladder firefighters went to the accident. Police said they issued Gillingham a written warning for failure to obey a traffic control signal. (A photo of this accident appeared in the November 12 edition of The Newtown Bee).

Dodgingtown Incident

Motorist Travor Stuart, 23, of Roxbury, who was driving a 1996 Nissan station wagon about 4:50 pm on November 11, was heading northward from Jacklin Road into the southern parking lot at the Dodgingtown Firehouse, when Stuart lost control of the vehicle and struck the firehouse, police said. Stuart was not injured, police said.

ATV Falls Off

Motorist Stephen Furphy, 21, of 3 Black Walnut Drive, who was driving a 2003 Dodge pickup truck southward near 71 High Rock Road about 9 am November 8, slid on the pavement and struck a tree on the side of the road, causing an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) that was loaded onto the truck to fall off the truck, police said.

Furphy was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions and for failure to secure a load.

DUI Charge

Police report that at about 11:22 pm on November 11, they stopped motorist Philip Dinielli, 42, of 9 Copper Creek Circle for a motor vehicle violation on South Main Street, near its intersection with Elm Drive.

After giving Dinielli field sobriety tests, police charged him with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Police said they released Dinielli on $100 bail for a November 30 court appearance.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Rochelle Reeves, 20, of Wilson, N.C., went to the police station on the afternoon of November 15 and was charged with three offenses, police said.

Police arrested Reeves on charges of fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, and criminal liability for fourth-degree larceny.

The charges stem from a March 2006 investigation, police said. After processing, police released Reeves on a written promise to appear in court on November 30.

Bicycle Accident

Police report an accident involving a SUV and a bicyclist about 12:15 pm on November 12 at the intersection of West Street and Roosevelt Drive.

Police report that motorist James Larin, 72, of 3 Roosevelt Drive, who was driving a 2003 Jeep SUV, was making a right turn from Roosevelt Drive onto West Street, when the Jeep struck bicyclist Lynn Baylis, 45, of Head O’ Meadow Road. Baylis received minor injuries, police said.

Police said they issued Larin an infraction for a stop sign violation.

Two MV Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Steven Scribner, 47, of Weston in Sandy Hook Center about 12:59 am on November 11 after he made a motor vehicle violation.

Police said they charged Scribner with failure to drive to the right and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Scribner on a written promise to appear in court on November 30.

Gelding Hill Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred near 5 Gelding Hill Road on November 9, police said.

In that incident, motorist Melissa McArthur, 20, of 38 Toddy Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Honda sedan northward on Gelding Hill Road, stopped for an animal on the road, police said.

Northbound motorist Stephanie Guerra, 21, of Monroe, who was driving a 1994 Honda coupe, then struck the rear end of the Honda sedan, police said.

McArthur was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked for a possible neck injury, police said. Police issued Guerra a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

South Main Accident

About 10:08 am on November 8, motorist Anthony Damiano, no age given, of Thomaston, who was driving a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee southward near 101 South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Nelson Ribas, no age given, of Monroe, who was driving a 1991 Honda Civic, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Ribas a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

 

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Carl E. Sealund, 39, of 43 Dodgingtown Road went to the police station on the morning of November 16 and turned himself over to police, who charged Sealund with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and failure to keep to the right on a curve.

Police said the charges stem from a September 4 two-vehicle accident near 22 Hattertown Road in which Sealund was involved.

After processing on November 16, police released Sealund on $100 bail for a November 30 court appearance.

Bus Incident

About 12:30 pm November 16, police responded to a school bus incident near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Pearl Street.

Police said they learned that a boy under age 18 who was on that bus was found to be smoking by the bus driver, who confronted the boy, after which the boy opened the bus’s rear emergency door, jumped from the bus and ran away.

Police said they found the boy and charged him with breach of peace, possession of tobacco by a minor in a public place, and smoking on a school bus.

The boy was released to a parent and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on November 22.
