Former Longtime Newtown Resident
Barbara Ann Finnell, 90, died November 12, in Southbury, after a brief illness. A resident of Heritage Village and prior to that a longtime resident of Newtown, Mrs Finnell was born in Bridgeport, July 23, 1920, the daughter of Olga and William Shaughnessy.
She attended Fairfield Ludlowe High School, and during World War II worked at Chance Vought Aircraft Corporation in East Hartford. After many years as a homemaker, she re-entered the workforce in 1969 as a medical secretary at Surgical Associates of Western Connecticut of Newtown and later Danbury, until her retirement in 1990.
An avid gardener, she was a longtime member of the Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown.
She is survived by her son Michael of Woodbury; her sister Margot of Bridgeport; her brother William of Brookfield; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband James predeceased Mrs Finnell.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated November 17 at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. Interment followed at St Rose Cemetery in Sandy Hook. Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, was in charge of arrangements.
