Lightning Falls In Semifinals

The Newtown Lightning U13 girls’ travel soccer team was defeated 3-1 by Fairfield in the district playoff semifinals this past weekend.

Newtown got off to a quick start as Megan Weber scored in the opening moments of the game.

The well-fought first half ended in a 1-1 tie,  but the Lightning players were was unable to convert a shot in the second half and Fairfield pulled ahead.

Andrea Rodriguez was fearless in goal, backed up with strong play by Dale Shearin and Meg Korchman on defense and  Shelby Tolla in the midfield.
