Warrant

Police report they arrested Richard Mercado, 27, of Shelton on a warrant on the morning of November 17, lodging charges of evading responsibility and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Police allege that at about 6 pm on July 30, Mercado, who was driving a vehicle on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Wasserman Way, struck the rear end of another vehicle and then drove away from the scene of the accident. The collision occurred when the vehicle that was ahead of Mercado’s vehicle had stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

Following an investigation, police sought and received the warrant for Mercado’s arrest.

After processing the case, police released Mercado on $100 bail for a December 1 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Three MV Charges

About 11:50 am on November 16, police said they stopped motorist Hank Randall, 51, of Washington Depot on Mt Pleasant Road, near Diamond Drive, because Randall was not wearing a seatbelt.

On investigating, police charged Randall with failure to wear a seatbelt, driving with a suspended vehicular registration, and with driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Randall on $200 bail for a December 1 court appearance.

Larceny Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Joseph Woodworth, 50, of 27 Far View Drive turned himself over to police at the police station on the morning of November 17, and was charged with third-degree larceny, which is a felony.

Third-degree larceny involves the theft of items valued at between $1,000 and $5,000.

Police said the arrest stems from their investigation into a September 3 complaint from the firm known as Tier One, LLC, which is located at 31 Peck’s Lane.

Woodworth formerly worked at the firm from which he allegedly stole various industrial items, police said.

Following processing, police released Woodworth on a written promise to appear December 1 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

Police said that late on the morning of November 17, they went to the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street in response to a shoplifting complaint.

Police allege that Lawrence Nigro, 38, of Waterbury stole some beer and some candy at the supermarket. Police charged him with sixth-degree larceny and with interfering with police.

Police said they held Nigro on $2,500 bail for a November 18 arraignment at Danbury Superior Court.
