NHS Staging ‘Almost, Maine’ This Weekend
Newtown High School students are staging the school’s fall drama production of Almost, Maine, written by John Cariani. It will be presented at the school, 12 Berkshire Road, November 17 to 20.
Productions are scheduled for Thursday, November 17, Friday, November 18, and Saturday, November 19, at 7 pm. There will also be a matinee Sunday, November 20, at 2 pm. Tickets will be sold at the door — $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $7 for students.
The fall drama production is typically a student-run production. This year it is being directed by seniors Maren Leyva and Leah Crebbin.
Newtown High School theater arts/English language arts teacher Janice Gabriel is acting as the fall drama advisor.
Gabriel described the play as nine vignettes of different couples, and the directors promised at a recent rehearsal that it offers something for all members of the audience to enjoy, from drama to laughs.
Leah said she and Maren had both worked on different NHS dramas and musical productions in the past, so they knew they wanted to work together to direct their senior fall drama.
Maren said past fall dramas at NHS have either been “dark or comedy” and Almost, Maine offers “a little of everything.”
And with the vignette-style of the play, Maren said “it gives a chance for everyone to shine.”
Along with Leah and Maren, production team members are Olivia Ayles, Katie Murphy, Grace Zatulskis, Mary Guion, Claire Nalajala, Malcolm Zimmerman, Carissa Soriano, Ben Fogal, Emily Metzker, Wyatt Ruggerio, and Abby Mccafferty.
Cast members for the production are Bennett Samberg, Cate Dalton, Jules Kessler, Ava Baroody, Theo Anderson, Sadie Gureasko Moore, Grace Lynch, Emily Joyce, Kirstin Lageman, Julia Forlenzo, El Glassman, Skylar Lewis, Brooke Kinsey, Amelia Rivera, Samuel Giuggio, Kirtana Kunzweiler, Ashton Almeter, and Maddie Talluto.
