Rotary Preparing For Pancake Day

The Newtown Rotary Club will host its annual Pancake Breakfast in The Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, on Saturday, December 3, from 8 am to 1 pm. Tickets for the all-you-can-eat fundraiser are $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

“This is the 51st year in a row that the Rotary Club has sponsored this event,” said Rotary Club President Pat Caruso. “Coming to Pancake Day has become an important holiday tradition for many people in Newtown.”

“We are adding some holiday entertainment to the pancake breakfast this year,” said Pancake Breakfast Chairman John Trentacosta. “The Dance Team of Lathrop School of Dance will be performing a Christmas show at 11, 11:30, 12, and 12:30.”

In addition to the pancakes, Rotary will also be offering Amber Alert ID cards during the event. Co-sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank and Dental Associates of Connecticut, Newtown Rotary — with the assistance of Danbury Rotary Club — will make available to parents a wallet-sized plastic card for each child that contains minimal yet essential information and a digital color photo. These cards can be extremely helpful in finding a child who becomes lost or is abducted.

In addition, strongly encrypted computer data, not connected to the Internet or any other system, and so accessible only by state police, will be collected to assist in finding a missing child. Newtown Rotary will make one card available for each child at no cost. Duplicate cards are $2 each.
