At Next NAMI Fairfield Meeting
FAIRFIELD â Two very different facilities that provide long-term assistance to people in recovery from mental illness will be represented at the next NAMI Fairfield chapter gathering. On Wednesday, December 2, NAMI Fairfield will host The Parentsâ Foundation for Transitional Living, and Hundred Acre Homestead at its First Wednesday of the Month Speaker Meeting.
NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Its goals are to support those living with mental illness and their loved ones, to provide educational programs to the community that foster understanding and healthy living, and to provide advocacy.
The Parentsâ Foundation for Transitional Living is a private, nonprofit mental health residential community dedicated to the recovery of adults with serious and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety disorder. Located in the heart of New Haven, its residents access the best of care from New Havenâs psychiatric and medical providers, hospitals, and mental health centers.
With a rehabilitative approach, this mental health residential setting provides a warm and comfortable home where residents can stabilize, learn to manage their illness, and live a better life.
Now picture a place where people live and work in harmony with the seasonal cycles of a small Vermont farm. Hundred Acre Homestead is a licensed therapeutic community residence that provides a growth-enhancing program for those who suffer from mental and emotional illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
The daily chores and seasonal cycles of this small Vermont farm provide invaluable opportunities for individuals to cultivate positive, healthy feelings, build motivation, develop a sense of purpose, and experience the personal pride that comes with true accomplishment.
Through meaningful work and play and participation in a larger community, Hundred Acre Homestead helps individuals gain insight and develop powerful tools that can help them to regain their hopes and pursue their dreams.
The meeting will be held in the Eliot Room of the First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, from 7:30 to 9 pm. It is open to the public, is free of charge, and light refreshments will be served. For more information call 203-650-3463.
