Opening Reception Saturdayâ
Miniature Work By Contemporary Artist
In New Show At Greenwich Workshop Gallery
FAIRFIELD â The Greenwich Workshop Gallery is once again bringing original artwork from more than 50 renowned contemporary artists to Fairfield for the third annual âSmall Worksâ miniature art show. Measuring 11 by 14 inches or smaller, these one-of-a-kind original works will be available for a very limited time.
The exhibition will open with a reception on Saturday, November 18, from 4 to 7 pm, and will then remain on view until December 31.
Newtown artist Daniel Mark Duffy will be one of the artists represented in the show. Others include Cassandra Christensen, Barney, Will Bullas, June Carey, James C. Christensen, Mo DaFeng, Don Demers, Bev Doolittle, Flick Ford, Scott Gustafson, Steve Hanks, Judy Larson, Mian Situ, John Weiss and Michael Whelan.
Miniatures are sought out by collectors not only because of the intricacy of the craftsmanship in a smaller format, but also because they can provide a lower price point for consumers looking to establish a collection of original fine art.
Chris Usher, director of the Greenwich Workshop Gallery, said, âOur collectors are very receptive to miniature works. While many have followed the careers of these artists for years and are eager for the opportunity to add an original by their favorite artist to their collections, this show also presents a unique opportunity to new art enthusiasts by offering the work of famous artists at obtainable prices. Miniature art, with its minimal space requirements and favorable cost comparison, places original fine art within the reach of both art lovers and collectors.â
At 1/16 scale of the actual subject, miniature art can challenge the viewerâs belief in what an artist can possible create in such a small space. Most artists work large, but few have the skills and discipline to work in miniature.
Miniature art requires attention to the smallest detail, sharpness of line and exact selection of color. The finished product must be perfect enough to be scrutinized under a magnifying glass and still hold together as a fine work of art of much greater size. A miniature usually takes as long or longer to produce as a large piece of art.
Established in 1975, the Greenwich Workshop Gallery serves collectors and art enthusiasts across the United States and around the world. Our collection represents over 50 artists and includes original art, limited edition fine art prints, porcelain sculpture, art books and other art-based gifts.
The Greenwich Workshop is at 1657 Post Road in Fairfield. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5:30 pm (open Thursday and Saturday until 7:30 pm). Contact the gallery at 203-255-4613 or Fairfield@GreenwichWorkshopGallery.com.
