‘North Pole Idol’ Will Be CGMC’s 2006 Holiday Show

American Idol fever has hit the North Pole. Starstruck holiday characters of every description will stop at nothing to get to the top, and the audience will be the judge.

That’s the backdrop for “North Pole Idol,” the Connecticut Gay Men’s Chorus (CGMC) holiday show to be presented in December throughout Connecticut.

“We’re imagining the backstory behind Santa, the reindeer, and all the denizens of the north,” said Winston Clark, music director of CGMC. “Sure, they’re usually portrayed as nice. But what happens when a big record deal is at stake?”

North Pole residents will cast their holiday duties to the wind in their efforts to outdo each other’s acts. Legions of conniving elves, backstabbing reindeer, a love-hungry Mrs Claus, and even Santa himself will vie for the coveted title. There’s even a special appearance by “Clay Aiken,” who will finally answer the question that is on everyone’s mind.

“We’ll sing favorite carols in sparkling new arrangements for a warm feeling of holiday cheer,” said Mr Clark. “Then all bets are off as these crazed wannabes take to the stage for some truly remarkable entertainment.”

“North Pole Idol” will be presented on Sunday, December 3, at 4 pm, at Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue, Norwalk; Saturday, December 9, at 8 pm, at Shubert Theater, 247 College Street, New Haven; Sunday, December 10, at 4 pm, Western CT State University’s White Hall, 181 White Street in Danbury; and Saturday, December 16, at 8 pm, at The Bushnell Theater, 166 Capitol Avenue in Hartford.

For tickets, at $35 and $30, call the CGMC box office at 1-800-644-2462.
