Garden Club Greens Sale Growing

The Garden Club of Newtown will hold its annual Greens Sale on Saturday, December 2, from 9 am to 2 pm – or until its inventory sells out – at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

Members of the club begin planning for the sale early, drying plant material from their gardens as well as citrus fruits to use in decorating wreaths, swags and table arrangements. Holly and other fresh greens from members will also be incorporated into the designs. Roping and kissing balls and other handmade items will be available for sale.

Newtown garden author Sydney Eddison’s latest project, The Gardener’s Color Wheel, will be offered during the sale. Mrs Eddison developed the color wheel and booklet as a short course in colors for the garden to combine with her book The Gardener’s Palette which is now back in print. A color wheel was used in the book to illustrate the principles involved in choosing colors for the garden.

Her latest book, Gardens to Go: Creating and Designing Container Gardens, will also be available for sale and Mrs Eddison will sign books and color wheels between 10 am and 1 pm. A portion of the sales of Mrs Eddison’s books will benefit the garden club, as will all proceeds from the garden club’s items during the annual event.
