Ready To Listen After Residents Have Spoken

To the Editor,

Thank you, Newtown!

It is almost a week later, and I am still impressed by how engaged everyone in town was in this election. 40.5 percent of the town’s registered voters came out on November 7th, more than we have seen in a long time.

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to make their voices heard and electing candidates on both sides that represent your views.

I would also like to thank all of the volunteers that took time to help out with the campaigns this year. Campaigning is a huge job, and the candidates can not do it on their own. It takes a monumental effort to be able to knock on doors, write letters, stand at the polls all while holding down regular full-time jobs. I met many extremely dedicated volunteers who were on the phones reminding people to come out and vote as well as making sure those of us standing at the polls had food.

Thank you for all you did for the candidates!

Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank everyone who put themselves out there as candidates. It is not easy to run for office, especially since you are putting in all of the work to earn a volunteer position. But everyone was committed to their cause and took the time to make sure that voters knew where they stood on issues.

Congratulations to all my fellow candidates! With such a high engagement there are no winners or losers, the entire town has won. I’m very excited about the next two years that I will get to spend on the Board of Selectmen and am looking forward to working with all of you in some form. The residents of Newtown certainly have spoken, and I am ready to listen.
