Titans Tie Easton In Championship Game
The Newtown Titans U13 boysâ soccer team tied Easton-Redding United in the division championship game Sunday.
On Saturday, the Titans defeated Norwalk CSC in the semifinal, 2-1. As has been the case throughout this season, the Titansâ offense kept the ball in the opponentâs half for most of the game on both days of the playoffs, generating plenty of scoring opportunities.
Against, Norwalk, Jack Oltran scored midway through the second half with an assist from Grant Moxham. Minutes later, Thomas Skrelja took the ball on the left side for an insurance goal. Norwalk scored a quick goal to make the score 2-1 late in the game. Goalie Michael Greenspan came up with a great last-minute save to preserve the win.
In the final game, Easton-Redding scored first. Newtown got a press from Nick Weiland and Skrelja that resulted in an Oltran goal to tie the game. Limited field availability did not allow for overtime. James Barden stood out on defense in both games.
