Occupation: I am the executive director of Newtown Youth & Family Services. My background is in health and wellness. I’m also licensed as a paramedic, but I’m currently taking some time off from volunteering in that capacity.

Family: Jeff and I just got married this summer. He works for Verizon.

Pets: No pets, or kids, yet.

How long have you been in Newtown? I’ve been NYFS director for a little over a year. We live in New Milford.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m a big house person. I love to do yard work and housework, and we’re putting an addition on our house, so that keeps me busy. I love to travel, and I play a lot of sports. Last year, I was on a woman’s hockey team. We spend a lot of time with our extended families, too.

Do you have a favorite sports team? I’m a big Patriots and Red Sox fan. My husband is a Yankees and Jets fan, so there’s a great divide in our house.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? Probably my current favorite is Salzburg, Austria. We went to Europe this summer on our honeymoon, and we had a wonderful time there. It was clean and the people are very friendly. There’s a rich culture there and the food was outstanding. You felt like you were standing in a scene from The Sound of Music most of the time.

What is the best thing about Newtown? The outpouring of kindness, whether it is a vendor, another nonprofit, or a local business. Everyone is so inviting here. It’s super. There’s genuine hospitality.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My uncle, Dr William Durm, a retired captain in the US Navy. When the Pentagon got hit in 2001, he was in charge of the whole medical team there. He’s an incredible family man and leader. In my eyes, he’s a phenomenal individual. He’s the one I go to for advice, just a great guy.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Show everybody respect. It’s so important to give respect to whomever I associate with, from kids to the elderly. It’s important to have mutual respect. I think being respectful to everyone and everything is one of the biggest things my parents taught me.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? That’s hard to say, but I guess it would be stealing time to just sit still. I don’t really do that. When I do, I try to sneak in some reading. It’s about the only time I can.
