Gervais Brings Home Checkered Flag In Feature Race
The Newtown-based racing team owned by Gervais Brothers Roofing dominated the highly competitive SK Modified division at the nationally recognized North-South Shootout over the weekend of November 10, at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C.
Driver Michael Gervais Jr. set the fastest time of the day winning the pole position with a blistering lap during time trials on Friday afternoon and then led the race from the green flag to the checkers during the feature race on Saturday afternoon.
The high banked Caraway paved oval track measures just under 1/2 mile in length. The North-South Shootout is a highly competitive race pitting drivers from throughout the country against each other and is a place where winning drivers gain significant recognition from car owners and national sponsors.
Gervais credited his success to a strong motor supplied by Plainville-based Tony Alteri of T/A Engines and excellent performances by crew members Nick and Stevie Kopcik.
The No. 22 SK Modified was set up by Mike Paquette from Oxford based CD Chassis. Gervais, who finished up third in the points race during the regular season at Stafford Motor Speedway, is sponsored by NJK Automotive, Hocon Industrial Gas, Mark Edwards Roofing, Magnus Transmissions, Robert Riebe Construction, Fair Auto Parts, Town Line Auto Body, Arbitel Convenience Stores, Bruce Gervais Custom Paint and Lettering, and David Smith Racing.Â
