Childrenâs Programs
*After Kristine Humber has read Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, children ages 5â9 can create their own leaf collages using real leaves, stamped leaves, and hand painted leaves, accented with clear glitter to add a touch of frost, on Saturday, November 17, at 1 pm. A $5 material fee is due on the day of the program.
*Creative Connections: Music and Movement with Francine Wheeler is Saturday, November 17, at 2 pm. Creative Connections is an enrichment program geared for children with sensory processing differences. Francine Wheeler is a singer, educator and childrenâs entertainer and will lead participants in a fun interactive musical program. For ages 5â9 along with an adult partner. This free program is sponsored by a grant from GE Capital.
*The EverWonder Childrenâs Museum committee is conducting workshops, Exploring Your Senses. The remaining workshops, November 20, Touch, and November 27, Taste and Smell are at 1 pm. Each workshop will focus on one of the five senses through a variety of fun hands-on activities. A $5 material fee is due on the day of the program. Proceeds will benefit the EverWonder Museum. For ages 4â6.
*Read to Tessie, a registered therapy dog that loves to hear children read aloud, on Thursdays, November 29 and December 13, at 4:30 pm. Register online for a 15-minute slot. For independent readers.
*Meet author/illustrator, Jennifer Thermes, on Saturday, December 1, between 10 am and noon, who has illustrated a new childrenâs book titled The Iciest, Diciest, Scariest Sled Ride Ever! Stop by and have her sign a copy or call the childrenâs department to reserve a copy for her to sign.
*Decorate a graham cracker gingerbread house with royal icing and festive candies on Saturday, December 8, at 2 pm. For children ages 4â9. A $4 material fee is due on the day of the program.
Young Adult Programs
*The next meeting of the Young Adult council will meet on Monday, November 19, from 3 to 5 pm. Young adults in grades 6â12 meet monthly to discuss books, plan programs, and do volunteer work at the library. On the agenda will be the current Teen Nutmeg books and which ones would be good candidates for the 2013 Battle of the Books.
*âUnderstanding the Teenage Mind,â a program for parents with Dr Elizabeth Jorgensen, has been rescheduled for Monday, December 3 (snow date December 5). Her passion for helping parents enjoy and manage teen behaviors is infectious and inspirational. She will discuss how to communicate and parent effectively with the developing adolescent brain. Adult & Family Programs
*Book Discussions: Julie Stern, retired teacher at WCSU, has been leading a five-part book discussion on the reality, the impact, and the long-range consequences of the âGreat War.â Multiple copies of the discussion books are available at the second-floor circulation desk. The last book on the schedule is River of Darkness by Rennie Airth on November 21. Discussion will begin at 7:30 pm in the meeting room.
