What Lurks In CT Lakes & Ponds?
DERBY â The Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society, in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protectionâs (DEPâs) Kellogg Environmental Center, will host an informative presentation on Tuesday, November 20, at 7:30 pm. Greg Bugbee of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will give a program titled âInvasive Aquatic Plants: What Lurks in Connecticutâs Lakes and Ponds?â
Due to their explosive growth potential, invasive aquatic plants can displace native species, upsetting the healthy ecosystems of lakes and ponds. Mr Bugbee will discuss the threat invasive aquatic plants are to the environment and research that is being conducted for controlling them. He will also answer questions to help attendees decide the proper management for their own backyards.
All participants will receive a copy of the booklet Understanding Invasive Aquatic Weeds.
Kellogg Environmental Center is at 500 Hawthorne Avenue, off Route 34. A donation of $4 for adults and $2 for students for nonmembers of Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society is requested.
