uThe No. 1 Wake Forest men’s soccer team finished the 2007 regular season with a 3-1 victory over Virginia last Friday and entered post-season play this week with a 15-1-2 record, the most regular season wins in the program’s 27 year history. Marcus Tracy (NHS ’05) has six goals and seven assists for the Demon Deacons and has one game-winning goal on the year.

uTara Gaston (NHS ’06) has been named to the Centennial Conference All-Centennial Women’s Soccer First Team after leading the Gettysburg College women’s soccer team into the conference semi-finals (where it lost a 2-0 heartbreaker to Johns Hopkins). The Lady Bullets concluded the season at 8-11-1, with Gaston starting all 20 games on defense (she managed two shots this year). Gaston was also selected as one of only seven Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll athletic scholars. 

uIn action against three Patriot League foes on Saturday afternoon, the Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team picked up wins against American and Lafayette, but fell to Navy. The Bison, who defeated the Eagles (223-71) and the Leopards (170-130), fell to the Mids (163-137) to level their dual-meet record at 2-2 on the season (2-1 in the Patriot League). Abigail Atkinson (NHS ’05) was part of the seventh-place 200-meter medley relay and then finished second in the 100-meter backstroke (1:07.99), third in the 200-meter backstroke (2:25.44), sixth in the 400-meter individual medley (5:17.47).

uIn a 48-31 win over Purdue on Saturday, Josh Rouse (Valley Forge Military Academy ‘06) of the Michigan State University football team returned a third-quarter kickoff 14 yards to the MSU 33. That particular drive ended about seven minutes later with kicker Brett Swenson knocking through a 23-yard field goal.

uThe DePauw University women’s swimming & diving team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 171.5-124.5 win over Wittenberg. The Lady Tigers started the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay as Lindsay Riggs, Sally Tabler (NHS ’07), Kelsey Warsinske and Katie Massey touched in at 1:30.50. Tabler also was second in the 200 butterfly (2:18.08), second in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.08) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:19.71). The Lady Tigers will be at the Wabash Invitational on Friday, November 16, and – later in the day – will host Wheaton and Transylvania Colleges.

uThe Castleton State College women’s tennis team finished second at the North Atlantic Conference championships. The Lady Spartans fell to Becker College. Kim Allen (NHS ’05) and Jamie Olson dropped an 8-3 decision in doubles.

uWith wins over Rider (5-1) and Saint Peter’s (5-1) and a draw with Loyola (2-2), the Fairfield University women’s soccer team improved to 11-6-3 but then dropped a 2-0 decision to Loyola in Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) semifinals on November 9. Casey Frobey (NHS ’06) has a team-high 11 goals with four assists.

uThe Montclair State University men’s soccer team captured its second consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship with a 1-0 win over NJCU. The Red Hawks received a first-round bye in the NCAA Division III tournament and then defeated Penn State Behrend, 2-1, to advance to the Sweet 16 this weekend. Brian Miles (NHS ’05) started on defense for the 19-2-1 Red Hawks and helped goalkeeper Nick Mele record his 13th shutout of the season.

uThe Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Rivier College in the GNAC quarterfinals. Diana Grimaldi (NHS’ 06) had seven kills and 11 assists in the match. Grimaldi finished the year for 10-22 Emmanuel with 75 kills, 336 assists, 14 service aces, 124 digs and 29 blocks.

uThe Keene State University men’s cross country team finished eighth at the New England Championships as freshman Eric Macknight (NHS ’07) finished 45th overall at 25:45.

u Led by 11 first-place finishes and strong performances on the boards, the St. Bonaventure men’s swimming and diving team defeated La Salle, 168-130, on Saturday for their second Atlantic 10 victory of the season. Senior CJ Maurer (NHS ‘04) captured first in the three-meter diving with a season-best 300.08 points. Maurer also finished second in the one-meter diving (to teammate Ryan Pietrzak) with 242.40 points.
