The Alpacas Are Coming

Lexington Gardens will follow its recent Christmas Open House with another busy weekend at 32 Church Hill Road.

Last weekend Tom Johnson and the staff of the nursery and boutique welcomed Santa Claus, a few of his elves, musicians, a local author, the owner of a local wine shop, and members of Canine Advocates of Newtown to the warm interior of the nursery. Santa welcomed children of all ages in one of the greenhouses, Newtown native Lucinda was joined by her friend and fellow musician Mike Connolly for a live performance on Saturday, Sandy Hook Wine & Liquors owner Mike Kerler had wines for tasting, CAN members were hosting a theme basket raffle, and Chuck Fulkerson stopped in for a two-hour book signing session on Sunday afternoon.

Shoppers were also greeted by plenty of in-store specials so that when all of the elements were combined, shoppers were treated to a good start for the holiday season over the weekend of November 10-11.

This coming weekend, Southwind Farms will be at Lexington Gardens with a few of the more than 40 Alpacas (the domesticated South American animal related to the llama) that call the Watertown farm home.

Alpacas and their handlers will be at Lexington Gardens from 10 am until 3 pm each day. Visitors will be invited to meet the curious, gentle and sometimes feisty Alpaca, who are known for their gentle nature and curious ways.

Alpacas produce one of the world’s finest and most luxurious natural fibers, comparable only to cashmere. It is softer, warmer, lighter and stronger than wool and comes in 22 natural colors. Once reserved for Incan royalty, it is now enjoyed by spinners and weavers around the world.
