 Songs They

Love To Sing

SOUTHBURY — Femina Melodia and The Femina Melodia Drummers will present “Songs We Love to Sing” on Sunday, November 18, at 4 pm.  The performance will be at B’nai Israel Synagogue, 444 Main Street North.

Femina Melodia is a women’s a cappella singing group which was formed in 2001 by Jan Gregory, who currently directs the group, which is based at The Renaissance Center in Bennett Square. They have formed a community which sings together on a weekly basis, and chooses a wonderful variety of music to perform.

The concert program includes uplifting music, such as Yoruban and South African chants, Robert Lowry’s 19th Century hymn “How can I keep from singing?,” the Pan-African national anthem “N’Kosi Sikelel’I Africa,” and “Song of the Soul” by Chris Williamson. The group will also perform new compositions by Julie Clark and Linda Goodman, both members of Femina Melodia and local composers; and the Femina Melodia Drummers will provide their traditional interludes on African Djembe drums.

This concert promises great fun for adults and children, so plan to sing along.

Admission at the door is $10 for adults or $5 for seniors and students. For more information about Femina Melodia or the concert, call the Renaissance Center at 267-7672.
