The Newtown 8- and 9-year-old Babe Ruth Fall Baseball program recently completed its 2001 season with an exciting round of playoff action. Two teams – The Show and The Nighthawks – battled for the championship.

Each team won a double-header to advance to the championship.

The game was close until The Show broke it upon with six runs as Nic Nazer, Cole Deput, Casey Tenney, Ralph Sergiovanni and Robbie Blanc each banged out hits.

Strong pitching by Sergiovanni and Jeff Spencer kept the opposition at bay throughout the game until the Nighthawks rallied on his by Jeff DiNicola and Joe Fedak. A two-out single to right by Sean Kennedy was picked up by Tenney, who fired to Blanc, the cut off man, who relayed the ball to Depuy at the plate, nailing the runner to end the game.

The Show took the game, 15-6.

The teams put in a superb effort and the coaches – Rick Blanc, Frank Sergiovanni and Dusty Tenney of The Show and Tom Murphy, John Fedak, and Bill Kennedy of the Nighthawks – earned a lot of thanks.
