Car Vs Truck

An automobile and a truck collided about 8 am November 15 at the intersection of Walnut Tree Hill Road and Church Hill Road.

Police said motorist A. Lema Ricardo, 23, of Pompano Beach, Fla., was driving a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck eastbound on Church Hill Road, and waiting for westbound traffic to pass so the truck could turn left onto Walnut Tree Hill Road.

When a westbound noncontact motorist stopped and signaled for the truck to turn left, it began to do so, but it then collided with an eastbound 1999 Dodge Intrepid driven by Dawn M. Aly, 51, of Southbury. The Dodge had been passing the westbound noncontact motorist on the right, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated Aly at the scene for injuries. Ricardo refused to go the hospital. Police said they issued Aly an infraction ticket on a charge of passing on the right.

 

Dodgingtown Theft

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Keith J. Simmons, 53, of 7 Partridge Lane turned himself over to police on the afternoon of November 15 and was charged with sixth-degree larceny. Simmons allegedly stole liquor and cash from Dodgingtown Liquor, while he was employed there, police said. Sixth-degree larceny involves the theft of less than $250.

Police said the theft occurred in late August. Police released Simmons on bond for a November 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Charge

Police said they saw motorist Brian O’Sullivan, 29, of 38 Great Ring Road drive past a stop sign without stopping at the intersection of Schoolhouse Hill Road and The Boulevard about 3 am November 17. O’Sullivan also failed to keep to the right while taking curves in the road. Police stopped O’Sullivan and gave him field sobriety tests, which he failed. Police charged O’Sullivan with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right on a curve, and failure to obey a stop sign. After processing, police released O’ Sullivan on a $100 bond for a November 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Columns Colored

Someone sometime between 9 and 11 am November 17 squirted a red liquid onto the two large limestone columns on the southern side of the front portal at Edmond Town Hall at 45 Main Street, police said. The fluid apparently came from small plastic capsules. Workmen later were able to clean off most of the red dye. Anyone with information about the case of criminal mischief is asked to contact police at 426-5841.

Assault Charge

Police said they charged Michael Mottola, 41, of 48 The Old Road with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct about 11 am November 18 in connection with an incident at a South Main Street address in Botsford. Police said Mottola initially refused the leave the South Main Street property and assaulted the victim, who then called police. Mottola left the scene before police arrived, but police later found him at his home where they charged him. Mottola was released on a promise to appear November 29 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Failure To Appear

Gary Corigliano, 21, of 174 Brushy Hill Road turned himself over to police on November 18 after learning they had a warrant for his rearrest. Police charged Corigliano with failure to appear in court, first-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree criminal trespassing in connection with an August 14 incident at Newtown Country Club.

Police said that at 3:36 am on August 14, they received a report that an automobile was traveling on the nine-hole golf course. On their arrival, police found a vehicle, which apparently had become disabled, abandoned on the golf course.

Police searched the golf course and found Corigliano, whom they charged in the case. An estimated $2,700 of damage was done to almost 1,300 square feet of turf by the vehicle, according to police. Corigliano is now scheduled to appear in court November 29 to answer the charges.

Warrant Served

Police report Carrie Medici, 23, of Woodbury turned herself over November 18 after learning of a warrant for her rearrest.

Police charged her with two counts of failure to appear in court, plus one count of speeding and one count of operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. The motor vehicle charges stem from a past incident.

After posting a $2,500 surety bond, police released Medici for a December 4 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Deer Vs Acura

Motorist Hermanos Ramos, 27, of Bridgeport was driving a 1992 Acura Legend northbound on South Main Street in the vicinity of Pecks Lane about 11:30 pm November 18, when a deer ran into the road and collided with the auto, police said.

Ramos was not injured.

I-84 DUI

State police report they charged Matthew Horn, 22, of Brookfield with driving under the influence about 1:10 am November 15 on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10.

State police released Horn on a $500 bond for a November 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Interstate Crash

Tractor-trailer truck driver Christopher Littun, 22, of Lexington, Ky., while switching lanes on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 11 am November 17, struck the right-side exterior rear-view mirror of a 1999 Toyota sedan, which was being driven by Lynn Young, 45, of 54 Main Street, state police said.

There were no injuries. The Toyota carried two child passengers. State police issued Littun a moving violation.

Unsecured Load

State police said a box fell off the back end of a 2000 Dodge truck being driven by Samuel Munoz, 45, of Danbury on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, about 6:45 pm November 16.

Motorist Joan Turner, 37, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Jeep, then drove over the box. There were no injuries. State police said they issued Munoz a written warning for failure to secure a load.

Cell Phone Crash

Motorist Scott Lawlor was driving a 2001 Pontiac sedan eastbound on Interstate 84, near Exit 11 about 11:15 pm November 14, when in attempting to dial his cellular telephone, he drifted off the road and damaged 11 guardposts, which supported steel guard cabling.

Lawlor was uninjured. State police issued him an infraction ticket on a charge of making an unsafe lane change.

Castle Hill DUI

Motorist Edward F. Moffitt, 21, of Danbury was driving a 1988 Mercury Sable eastbound on Castle Hill Road about 1 am November 20, when he drove off the road and struck a stone wall and a tree.

Police said Moffitt, who was uninjured, failed field sobriety tests. Police charged him with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.

After processing, police released Moffitt on a $50 bond. He is scheduled to answer the charges December 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

Four Violations

Police report they saw motorist Angela M. Armstrong, 42, of Westville cross the center line of Route 302 while driving in Dodgingtown about 11:20 am November 16.

Police said they stopped Armstrong to investigate and charged her with failure to drive to the right, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Police released her on a promise to appear December 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

Ladder Theft

Police report that someone sometime between 5 pm November 14 and 3:30 pm November 15 stole two ladders owned by LLC Carpentry, valued at $600, from a construction site on Aunt Park Lane in Hattertown.

 Police are investigating the larceny.

South Main Accident

Motorist Christopher N. Goodrich, 33, of 25 Sleepy Hollow Road, who was driving a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner southbound on South Main Street near Elm Drive about 5:45 pm November 19, stopped to wait for northbound traffic to pass so he could turn left into a parking lot, police said.

Southbound motorist Melissa Froehle, 20, of Derby, who was driving a 1996 Nissan Sentra, could not stop in time and drove into the rear end of the Toyota.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the scene and checked out Diane Goodrich, 32, of 25 Sleepy Hollow Road, who was a passenger in the Toyota, but made no transport, police said.

Police issued Froehle a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
