Police Announce

Seatbelt Campaign

Starting Friday, November 19 and continuing through the Thanksgiving holiday, town police plan to step up their enforcement of seatbelt laws, according to Sergeant George Sinko.

Police will target various locations throughout town in their enforcement drive.

Police remind motorists that all people riding in the front seats of automobiles must wear seatbelts, even if the vehicle is equipped with airbags.

All passengers in autos from age 4 through age 15 must wear seatbelts.

Also, children under age 4 must be sitting in child safety seats.

Newtown police will join other police departments throughout the state to enforce the seatbelt laws, Sgt Sinko said.

The enforcement drive is part of the Connecticut Safety Belt/Child Safety Seat Campaign, as well part of the America Buckles Up Children Campaign.

The seat belt enforcement drive is intended to reduce injuries and fatalities in vehicular accidents.

“The Newtown police will pay particular attention to motorists who violate laws pertaining to seatbelts and child seats,” said the sergeant.
